Cue the warm tones, playful prints and laid-back island energy. Let’s rewind back to summer. Our design collaboration with a kids’ clothing brand, ChiliPep, launched. We created playful prints and nostalgic graphics for its Vintage Pacific collection.

CHANNELING NOSTALGIA

We all have those key childhood summer moments- the ones that replay in our minds, where time felt so simple. For us it may not have been the Pacific coast but it was the Atlantic. A timeshare in Daytona Beach for a week in the peak of summer every year. Our family and cousins would load into the minivan set with fishing poles, boogie boards and multiple bottles of sunscreen. We’d have routines like watching the sunrise while sharing a bag of chips, walking to the pier and going on the skyride, popping into the chocolate factory for a sample on a tour we could have recited, eating sandwiches and watermelon for lunch, building sandcastles and searching for seashells.

We’d go to the souvenir shops, pick a tee and have a print put on it. Every time, different designs yet the color palettes seemed to remain the same. Vibrant but slightly muted from the print transfer. Similar to the colors scattered around the beach town, from buildings to beach umbrellas- all very bright yet faded from the sun appearance. That’s the feeling we wanted this collection to translate. To be filled with bright colors yet muted for a nostalgic touch to mimic the Vintage Pacific theme.

THE COLLECTION

The Pacific Rules Tee graphic was influenced by vintage tourist tees with a classic palm and oceanscape view. The illustrations all kept simple and in a kid-like signature style to match ChiliPep’s aesthetic.

We love that ChiliPep is such a bold brand and pushes us outside of our norm in aesthetic. It has been such a fun change and now seeing the next generation of our cousins’ littles in pieces from this collection has brought everything full circle. We can’t wait for you to see what else we’ve worked on together which is coming very soon this Fall.
