September has always seemed to bring on a craving for a refresh. It’s the messy middle of summer and fall you can’t help but want to settle into. The one where you want to open a new notebook, sit with a cozy blanket, and jot down all the ideas you want to do before the end of the year. Maybe it’s because for us it means another year older, one chapter closing and a new one beginning. Maybe it’s the change of season gently nudging us to follow suit. But it’s always felt like the approachable New Year, in a sense. There’s a quiet excitement of “let’s do this” that starts to echo. It’s in these moments you want to clear out your closet, create a new playlist, and for us a time to linger in the mindset of simply creating. To create for the sake of creating. The type where there’s no feedback to gather, no deadline to meet, and it has all the freedom of whatever we choose.

Being creative for a living, it’s so easy to get caught in the cycle of forgetting to return to yourself. To create for yourself and turn off that part of your brain that overthinks outcomes, anticipated feedback. To rediscover a piece of yourself that may at times get lost, but creativity you never lose. When you return to it, it feels like home- it’s your style. You return to the state of why you fell in love with creating to begin with. It’s a refresh all in itself, yet this time for you.
