In a season of change, we’re embracing textures, layering, and warm tones like butter yellow this October.
Oct 31, 2024 — Musings
As the temperature slightly lowers, we are welcoming in the comfort of autumn. This season gives endless reasons to love October musings of layering, rich textures, and golden colors. We’re working more outside enjoying the cooler morning breeze, baking sweets a little more frequently, and replanning our fall garden.
Autumn is all about change and while we may have gotten a bit more than we thought these past few weeks, we are inspired by the new routines. As we sit outside writing this and listening to our raspy country/folk music, there’s an extra chorus of rebuild echoing from our neighbors after the hurricanes —a roar of a saw, a beep of a large truck backing up, the clatter of tile being popped up, and the hum of a pump draining a pool. The noise – a new reality but one welcoming change and strength in growth. We can’t help but reflect on all that we’ve been up to behind the scenes with our business this past year and where we’re headed.
Earlier this year we wanted to truly define our design style and focus on rebuilding our brand around that. Something that should be easy for us as brand designers but actually makes it all the more difficult as we lose the “outsiders looking in” perspective when designing for ourselves instead of a client. However, after months of designing and redesigning, we’ve let go of the over-thinking perfectionism that has a grip on us. So here’s to showing up imperfectly and giving a bit more behind-the-scenes on socials too. We’re really trying to embrace this mindset.
Speaking of imperfect, we love fall for all its textures and even more so with a worn appearance. Specifically the natural fades on denim and suedes give extra character providing all the October musings.
Recent color inspo from our camera roll:
A few cozy items we’ve recently purchased or had our eyes on that are classics ready to be dressed up or down. The autumn colors and textures always have our hearts with all the warm tones because let’s be honest the rich colors complement our fair skin tones and auburn curls.
Textures like gingham and basket weave pair together to give a vintage flair that embraces the relaxing nature of the change in season. While mustards are always a favorite for fall, we are loving the golden butter hues that are trending this year and are definitely a must for October musings.
Leaning into the warmth of the season we love serving up recipes that mimic the feelings of the season. One of our favorite dishes we recently made is Half Baked Harvest One Pan Sesame Pumpkin Butter Chicken. Served with rice and buttery homemade naan this is the perfect comfort dish.
There’s always something about fall that makes caramel seem a little bit more special. Maybe it’s the childhood nostalgia of caramel apples but lately we’ve been craving the extra bit of sweetness to dip our granny smith apples in or top a piece of chocolate cake. If you know us then you know we love ice cream -a fall craving for us is vanilla ice cream, warm cinnamon apples, and to top it off the gooeyness of caramel sauce.
